BB's assassins will be brought to justice: Gilani
03-May-2010

ISLAMABAD,May3: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday categorically stated that anybody involved in assassination of Benazir Bhutto would be brought to justice.

Speaking in National Assembly, the Prime Minister said, "anybody who will be found involved in her assassination, will not be spared. He will be brought to justice. Her blood will not be squandered."

"She has sacrificed for democracy, Parliament and the people. It is our responsibility to reach to those people who hatched a conspiracy for her death," he said in response to certain points raised by Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

"Soon after the release of the (UN) report, the officers mentioned in itwere made OSD. A Fact Finding Committee was constituted and I have directed it to submit a report that either the SSP was asked by a high official to remove the evidences," he said.

"BB was our national as well as personal asset and those who are responsible for her killing cannot escape," Gilani said.

He said criticism was a right of the opposition. "What they say, is their point of view. But, even independent institutions have termed the performance of present parliament as better than others."

He said, "the government holds the Charter of Democracy (CoD) in high esteem. Our leader laid down her life for the principles enshrined in this document. It was an outcome of the hectic efforts of both the leaders and their parties".

"When CoD was signed, the system was ambiguous. Neither it was presidential nor parliamentary one. The Chief Executive was wearing four hats and was all in one. There is a lot of difference between the then system and the present one," he added.

The Prime Minister said today the Parliament was supreme. Most of decisions were taken unanimously. People despite different manifestoes and thoughts were united at one stage to make important decisions. "It is unity in diversity that none of 442 members of the Parliament opposed the 18th Amendment Bill. What more political maturity there can be."

He said the country was facing the challenges of terrorism and economy and it was another example of unity that today everybody was against terrorism and the government's efforts had put the economy back on track.

"NFC is a big achievement of this government. It will benefit the people when resources will be diverted to the provinces. I shall constitute an Implementation Commission for the NFC Award with representation of all political parties," he added.

He said after fighting out extremism and putting the economy back on track, investors across the world were willing for investment in Pakistan.

He said earlier world nations were not ready to accept Pakistan as a nuclear power, "but after our participation in the Nuclear Summit, they have acknowledged that we are a nuclear power. It has given legitimacy to our nuclear programme."
